The Collector s Edition
Celebrating a groundbreaking label
51CD BOX SET the true legacy of a legendary label

Long hailed as an audiophile s label, Mercury represents an important milestone in the history of classical recordings

As The New York Times described, "One feels oneself in the living presence of the orchestra"

60 years after the landmark first recording, Mercury Living Presence: The Collector s Edition celebrates this special anniversary

Elegantly packaged, and following the highly successful format of The Decca Sound, this box set presents 50 original albums that have won accolades, and features such celebrated artists as Antal Dorati, Rafael Kubelik, Gina Bachauer, Byron Janis, Janos Starker, and Henryk Szeryng

The bonus disc contains a rare interview with Mercury legendary producer Wilma Cozart Fine

Mercury Living Presence is special in many ways - an American company, from the heyday of classical recording in the U.S., that reproduced some of the most sonically realistic recordings at the dawn of the stereo era. Precious few stereo LPs were pressed when these recordings were issued, and they became some of the rarest, most collectible classical discs ever. Mercury Living Presence continues to enjoy a special reputation as one of the most enterprising, prestigious and sonically-spectacular labels in the history of classical recording.

Some of these recording have been available on CD and on SACD. However, many are now deleted and only available 2nd-hand or through auction sellers at pemium prices. This 50-album Box Set (plus bonus interview CD with Wilma Cozart Fine, Mercury s producer) affords collectors an opportunity to acquire 50 classic recordings at a terrific price, in a box which may well become collectible itself.

Cpap:Philips Respironics EasyLife Nasal vs Resmed SoftGel Nasal

!±8± Cpap:Philips Respironics EasyLife Nasal vs Resmed SoftGel Nasal

Cpap:Philips Respironics EasyLife Nasal vs Resmed SoftGel Nasal What is CPAP therapy? CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. A CPAP machine provides air at a prescribed pressure through a tube and CPAP mask to a person with Obstructive Sleep Apnea. CPAP therapy provides a constant airflow which holds the airway open so that uninterrupted breathing is maintained during sleep. This eliminates sleep apnea events and allows the patient to get a restful sleep. The pressure of the air is determined during your sleep study and your doctor will prescribe you a CPAP machine at that pressure. CPAP therapy is traditionally provided through a nasal mask that seals around the nose. However, more innovative and comfortable options are available and advances in the delivery of CPAP therapy are continually occurring. For instance: CPAPs with that boast FLEX or EPS technology will offer you exhalation relief. APAP, BiPAP and BiLevel machines offer various levels of pressure throughout the night and exhalation relief.

Sleeping With Tinnitus

!±8± Sleeping With Tinnitus

One of the biggest challenges that I hear from Tinnitus (constant ringing in the ears) patients is their inability to get a good night's sleep. I used to have this problem as well, so I am very familiar with how frustrating that is. Imagine what it might be like to sleep on a busy airport runway with jets taking off all around you. That's what it's like for me. For many people who suffer from this debilitating disease, they can be kept awake by constant hissing, roaring, pulsing, whooshing, chirping, whistling and even clicking sounds that interfere with their regular sleep patterns.

Unfortunately, the less sleep you get, the more your tinnitus will bother you. Why this is I'm not sure, except to know that if you're tired it's much harder to keep motivated and do the things you need to do to keep your mind off tinnitus. I do know, however, that it's very important to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night in order to avoid what often feels like an increase in the tinnitus volume.

So, how do you get a good night's sleep? That's really a 2 part question because first you have to get to sleep and then you have to stay asleep. I can't tell you the number of times that tinnitus would actually wake me up in the middle of the night. Once awake, it's virtually impossible to get back to sleep. Many patients admit that their tinnitus is much worse after awaking from sleep and I definitely agree with this based on my own experience.

First, let's talk about how to get to sleep. After experimenting for several years I came up with a formula that works for me and I truly believe it can work for you too. And, like David Letterman I call it; the top ten ways for tinnitus patients to fall asleep. But this is no joke!

Number Ten: Make sure you're physically tired. This seems like such a simple thing but it can really help to be just absolutely fatigued when you hit the pillow.

Number Nine: Don't watch TV before going to bed. It fills your mind with useless nonsense and more often than not, your mind will race with useless information as a result of the subject matter.

Number Eight: Don't exercise right before bed. This will raise your adrenalin and give you energy. Energy is the last thing you want when trying to sleep.

Number Seven: Don't eat after 8:00 pm. Avoid volume raising Tinnitus foods like caffeine, salt, alcohol, etc.

Number Six: If you can, meditate before bed. It will help to relax you and rid your body of any stress it is carrying. Breathe Deeply. Most of us go through our lives taking short breaths. A deep breath is grounding.

Number Five: Learn to relax in bed as if it were a rewarding experience. Relax each part of your body as you focus on relaxing it. Start with the top of your head and work your mind down to the tip of your toes. Very often I would only get to my knees and I'd be asleep.

Number Four: Try not to habituate yourself to loud noise when you are falling asleep. Avoid leaving the TV and/or radio on. If you can, open the window and listen to nature. If you must listen to something, make it a natural environmentally friendly sound, so when it's not there, you won't miss it.

Number Three: Make sure the room is dark so your brain tells your body its time to rest.

Number Two: Don't Think! I know that seems like an odd concept but the fact is, thinking is what keeps your mind active and that keeps you awake.

And, the Number One way to fall asleep is: If all else fails, make love!

When you make love, you are not thinking about your tinnitus and at the same time you are setting up your body to accept sleep. The magic in that is that you are NOT thinking! The mind is trained to think. Do you realize how little time you spend in your day not thinking? The trouble is that most people have never learned to not think. I saw an ad on television once for a large newspaper chain and their slogan was; Never Stop Thinking. This is utter nonsense. You need time away from thinking - especially if your thoughts are negative or stressful.

So, how do you stop thinking? If you're familiar with meditation then you likely have a good idea how this works. It's a simple concept but believe me it takes practice. The more you practice it the better you'll get at it. I use this technique to cat nap during the day and it works every single time. And, here it is: Relax and let your mind wander. When your mind falls on a thought, don't follow it. Don't focus on that thought. Say to yourself, oh I just landed on a thought let my mind go back to wandering. Don't fight it, just allow your mind to drift onto other thoughts. It's when your mind lands on a thought and follows that thought through a series of mental movies that causes stress and ultimately keeps you awake. Like I said, it takes practice, but it can be done.

Now, how do you stay asleep? That's an easy one. If you're tired when you go to bed you have a high probability that you will stay asleep. If you happen to wake up because of a dream or a loud noise, simply go through the ten steps all over again. Have a good night's sleep!

Sleep Apnea Equipment - What is the Best Equipment to Use For Sleep Apnea?

!±8± Sleep Apnea Equipment - What is the Best Equipment to Use For Sleep Apnea?

Searching the best sleep apnea equipment is a legitimate quest for anybody who suffers from Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS). What should you choose from the several alternatives that are on the market today? We will list the major manufacturers and what should you look for when buying sleep apnea equipment.

The most recommended and used equipments for SAS are the CPAP machines that represent a natural and non-intrusive treatment for people who suffer from this condition. CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure.

The principle is simple. Because in the OSA the blockage is physical, such as an enlarged tongue or tonsils, a CPAP machine is customized to push air in the mouth at a specific rate of speed. This ensures that the tongue and tonsils will not block the airway. The device comes with a special mask that is attached to the face with stripes.

These are the most known manufacturers of sleep apnea equipment:

Resmed is one of the biggest manufacturers on the market and makes CPAP, AUTO and Bilevel machines.

Respironics is the other big company that produces sleep apnea equipment. Most of the people have devices produced by these two companies. Respironics makes CPAP, Auto, BiLevel and Auto BiLevel machines. Their machines are divided in the following categories:

M Series Sleep Systems, these are the newer models that Respironics produces. REMstar Family (pre-M Series), these are the older models of machines, but many people still like and use them. BiPAP Family (pre-M Series), represent the older models of Bilevel machines.
Puritan Bennet is a smaller manufacturer. It makes plain CPAP, Auto and Bilevel sleep apnea equipment.

Fisher and Paykel is again a smaller manufacturer. The machines produces by this small manufacturer can be included in two groups:

SleepStyle 200 CPAP Series, which are CPAP machines, and Sleep Style 600 CPAP Series, which are CPAP that in addition have a heated hose.
Devilbiss is produced by Sunrise Medical. This company makes CPAP, Auto and BiLevel machines.

Aeiomed is another smaller manufacturer that produces the Everest machine.

It is recommended that regardless the model you choose, the sleep apnea equipment to have two features:

To be a fully data-capable machine, which means it stores the data regarding your sleep and thus it can be viewed by your doctor, and based on that he can make adjustments or further investigations. Especially if your apnea is not under control, the doctor doesn't have any other way to know what is happening if your machine doesn't collect all this data. To have a heated humidifier, the reason being that a CPAP treatment can be very difficult without a humidifier. The air is pushed into the nose and it can be dry, even when you are in a humid environment, which can irritate the tissue.

Before buying a sleep apnea equipment research very well the machines that are available and choose the one that suits you best. The mask is important because your comfort depends on it, but the machine is the most important piece in this puzzle.

The Night The Nurse Helped Me With My Snoring

!±8± The Night The Nurse Helped Me With My Snoring

One problem with running a Wine Bar is the very real opportunity one has to take advantage of the goods.

I particularly liked the different Beaujolais and the distinctive deep and flavoursome Riojas. Totally unlike the modern ones, I'm sorry to say.

Though I could, and would, not drink to excess, by the time I had closed the bar and gone home and had de-stressed over a glass or two I had had enough red wine. So by the time I got to bed my normally quite gentle snorette would have become, shall we say, considerably louder.

Claudette suggested that I should go to the doctor and do something about it. I did and he arranged an appointment for me at London's Kings Cross sleep center.

Ahh, Kings Cross. Trains and dames.

So on the appointed date I turned up at the center, nice and early, at around 7.00 pm. and they told me to go away. Come back when you've drunk your 'normal' amount. So I drove back across town to the Bar at Battersea, served the customers, had a laugh and a glass or two and represented myself at the sleep clinic at around 11.00 p.m.

They showed me to my bedroom where I undressed and got into bed.

A nice nurse entered. She was pretty, young and attentive.

"I shall be sleeping with you tonight. I need to judge the level of your snoring."

She connected a series of electrodes to different parts of my body. Leads led to an impressive bit of kit called, she told me, a polysomnograph.

I asked, "What does that do?"

"It measures your breathing rate, the stages of sleep you experience, the amount of oxygen in your blood, your heart rate and your blood pressure."

She then placed a small sensor on my finger.

"And what's that for?"

"That's an oximeter. That sends out pulses of light. It's attached to that computer over there that studies how these pulses are absorbed by your blood so that the computer can measure the amount of oxygen there is in your blood at any one time."

"Very impressive."

It was warm and peaceful in that bedroom and I felt safe knowing she was close. I closed my eyes and slept like a lamb.

She came in at seven the next morning to wake me. She held a cup of tea. What was strange about this was that the liquid was rippling. So great was it that it almost slopped over the teacup. She was shaking, looked shaken and also ashen and slightly distraught.

"Was I that bad?"

"I have never heard anything like it ever. It was terrible. Utterly, utterly terrible," she said.

Then. "Promise me. Promise me. "

"What?"

"That you will never, ever sleep with your mistress."

Excellent advice. And I kept my word. I never did.
